Samsung Continuum – World’s First Phone With a Dedicated Ticker Display

Samsung Continuum is an Android powered handset available on Verizon Wireless. It supports dual band CDMA 800 / 1900 2G networks and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO band 3G networks. This cell phone is very unique as it's the first phone in the world which features a dedicated ticker display.

The phone has the dimensions of 125 x 58 x 12 mm and weighs 125 grams. it's very compact and lightweight which makes it easy to carry and handle. As stated earlier, it's two separate integrated displays. The main display is 3.4 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen which supports a resolution of 480 X 800 pixels. The secondary display is 1.8 inches in size and is also a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. However, it's a resolution of 480 X 96 pixels. An accelerometer sensor allows users to auto-rotate the display mode to landscape or portrait without having to press any buttons on the phone. Other features include touch sensitive controls, multi-touch input method and proximity sensor for automatically turning off the display during calls. The ticker display loads up when you grip the phone at the bottom and shows updates from social networking sites, message notifications, weather updates, etc.

Samsung Continuum is powered by a ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor and runs on Google’s Android OS version 2.1 (Eclair). It also has a 336 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. With these amazing hardware specifications, advanced functions like multi-tasking, high-end application can be performed without any difficulty. Applications preloaded on the cell phone include a music player which supports MP3/WAV/eAAC+ file formats, video player which supports MP4/DivX/XviD/WMV/H.264/H.263, calculator, organizer, digital compass, etc. The handset comes with a 5 megapixel camera which can take photos upto a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels as well as record high definition videos of 720 pixels. Features of the camera include autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, face detection, smile detection, etc. Users can edit their videos and photos directly on the phone via the image/video editor. Connectivity options include Rev. A with speeds upto 3.1 Mbps, Wifi, Bluetooth version 3.0 with A2DP, microUSB version 2.0. Users can access the internet easily using the web browser application. Popular websites like Google Search, Google Maps, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, etc. are directly integrated as separate apps.
